Tardy Justice Under Pressure

It was shocking that during Jat quota stir in Sonipat , Women passengers were stopped on the national highway (NH 1)  in Murthal area of Sonipat district (Haryana). They were allegedly dragged to the fields and raped, The state was a mere spectator.

It’s disgusting to hear that the victims and their families were reportedly advised by the District Officials not to report the matter to anyone for the sake of their honour.

Now The Sonepat Additional Sessions Judge (who placed the investigating team in the dock in the Murthal rape case) is being pressured.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court yesterday hearing a PIL asked Haryana not to pressurize the Judge. The Bench also expressed concern over purported assurances on withdrawal of cases registered in connection with the agitation.

The Bench said: “We are getting the impression that there is pressure on the trial judge. Don’t pressure the lady…Don’t put any pressure and let her do her work.”

Responding to the assertion, Additional Solicitor-General of India Tushar Mehta on the State’s behalf dubbed the development as “shocking”.

The Bench categorically expressed its desire to refer the case to CBI (with more than 2000 FIRs registered) now.

It once again raised fundamental questions over the independence of subordinate judiciary and the compulsions to safeguard it.

shame on those officials who said “do not report the matter to anyone for the sake of your honour.” . Rapists should be beaten with shoes till death.
